There’s a lot of big scary changes going on right now in the world of journalism (you’ve probably read about it on your iPhone).
Chances are, the journalism career you end up with will be a lot different from what you’ve imagined. The way that news is created, produced, and distributed to the public is currently in a state of flux and no-one has any idea where things will settle out. It seems scary, but it’s also pretty exciting. I’m sure there were a lot of scared Benedictine monks out there when Gutenberg started showing off his flashy printing press, but eventually they realized that it was the perfect tool to help them get their message across.
This is why we’ve created Hot Ink.
Hot Ink was designed and created by former Canadian student newspaper staff to help bridge the gap between traditional print journalism and whatever comes next, and to ensure that Canadian student newspapers can continue to deliver poignant, insightful, and quality content to their campuses. We want to make sure that Canadian student newspapers don’t get left behind while the industry changes around them, and that they have the resources to stay on the cutting edge where they belong.
Hot Ink has been designed so that any editor, regardless of their technical background, can easily publish to the web and learn the ropes. At the same time, it’s robust enough that technophiles everywhere can work within it to achieve the results they desire. Most of all, Hot Ink is a link between Canadian University Press members, where they can freely and easily share content and make sure their campuses stay informed.
Over the next few weeks and months we’ll be updating this blog frequently with relevant information to help you get your newspaper online and start publishing in the new world. We hope you’ll be patient with us as we add more screen shots, software demos, resource guides, and general news and information about how Hot Ink can help your paper reach its full potential.
If you have any questions about Hot Ink, CUP, or Campus Plus, we hope you’ll get in contact.
